Screen Writer

I went back to the thing I loved first: telling stories.

Genre-driven feature screenplays built around big ideas, distinctive worlds and characters worth following — with a long-term ambition to write, direct and edit original films.

The Beginning

The night
everything
changed.

On the night the COVID lockdown began, Gabriel Pablo Axarlian started writing his first screenplay.

The world had suddenly stopped. After years in economics and academia, he had reached a turning point of his own: he was going to leave university teaching and return to the thing that had fascinated him since childhood — film.

Movies, comic books, horror and science fiction had always been part of his imagination. He had studied Cinema-Television at USC before his career took him in an entirely different direction. The pandemic became the moment he turned back.

That night, he began Sell Your Soul. What started as a return to storytelling became two completed feature screenplays, a third project in development, and a renewed commitment to creating original genre films.

STORY FIRST. WORLD BUILDING. CHARACTER. GENRE. A FILM SHOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY — AND STILL BE A HELL OF A RIDE.
Completed Features

Two worlds.
Two swings.

The first is a contemporary international slasher conceived as the beginning of a larger horror mythology. The second rebuilds American history to tell a political science-fiction thriller about what happens when a democracy reaches its breaking point.

Sell Your
Soul

The world's most popular app gives millions of dollars to random users — but a group of seemingly lucky teens discover that the money may have cost them their souls, sending them on a perilous journey across the globe to stop an international massacre.

Written as a love letter to the slashers that first terrified — and later captivated — Gabriel as a kid, Sell Your Soul takes the fun, mythology and recurring-character appeal of the great horror franchises and pushes it through a contemporary, global, technology-driven premise.

The screenplay is conceived as the first entry in a trilogy, with the larger story already envisioned beyond the first film.

Synopsis

Sell Your Soul, the world’s most popular app, gives out millions of dollars to random users. A group of seemingly lucky teens must grow up quickly when they learn that the money they won may have actually cost them their souls, launching them on a perilous journey across the globe to stop an international massacre. As the mystery deepens, survival means understanding what becoming a “Seller” really costs — and confronting the force behind an app that has turned temptation into something deadly.

Political Sci-Fi Thriller Feature Alternate American History

Reconstitution: An American Fairytale

2023 Creative World Awards · Finalist

The January 6th insurrection has succeeded — but a secret department established by George Washington emerges from the shadows to save American democracy, while a sinister force threatens to bring down the republic.

Reconstitution began with a much larger challenge: invent an alternate American history convincing enough to support an entirely new constitutional mythology — then make that history work inside a propulsive feature film.

The story combines political thriller, science fiction, mystery and historical reinvention. Its contemporary narrative follows Dr. Sophelia Nelowie and Nurse Desiree Carballo while highly stylized historical sequences reveal the hidden origins of the Department of Reconstitution and the women who helped shape it.

After more than a year of research, world-building and writing, the completed screenplay was submitted to one screenwriting competition and became a finalist in the 2023 Creative World Awards.

Documented Authorship

The ability
is mine.

For anyone wondering whether my screenwriting ability depends upon generative AI, my first two feature screenplays provide a documented answer.

Sell Your Soul and Reconstitution: An American Fairytale were conceived and written by me and registered with the U.S. Copyright Office before ChatGPT was released to the public. Their dated registrations provide a contemporaneous record of my ability to originate, develop and execute feature-length screenplays without generative-AI assistance.

ChatGPT Launches

OpenAI releases ChatGPT publicly as a free research preview. Earlier generative-AI systems had existed, but they were primarily developer-facing and were not broadly accessible to ordinary users through a simple conversational interface.

Why It Matters

A documented
creative record.

My first two feature screenplays establish a documented record of independent authorship before ChatGPT became publicly available. The work came first. The ability is mine.

Reconstitution subsequently became a finalist in the 2023 Creative World Awards after being submitted to a single screenwriting competition, providing independent recognition of the work itself.

Although the chronology of my third screenplay, Warrior Road Angels, cannot provide the same pre-ChatGPT documentation, my authorship practice has not changed. I have not used generative AI to conceive or write it, and I do not intend to use generative AI to write my future screenplays.

Historical context: generative language models existed before ChatGPT, but earlier systems were primarily developer-facing rather than broadly available to ordinary users through a simple conversational interface. November 30, 2022 is used here as the mass-market benchmark for that shift.

In Development

The next
story.

Feature Screenplay · First Draft Complete

Warrior Road Angels

When a freewheeling group of women on a desert road trip is ambushed by a murderous band of post-apocalyptic warriors, their fight for survival spirals into an increasingly surreal nightmare where nothing is quite what it seems—and getting off the road alive becomes only the beginning.

A third feature screenplay is now in development. The first draft has been completed and the project is moving through the next stage of rewriting and refinement.
